Thanksgiving is finally here! It’s time for succulent turkey, tart cranberries, savory stuffing, and the ultimate side dish: creamy mashed potatoes.

This buttery side dish is a perfect complement to a hardy Thanksgiving dinner. Here’s an easy recipe for the best mashed potatoes a friction stir welding machine can make:

Wait, what?

Yep. You read that correctly.

Our LS-1 Friction Stir Welder is the perfect machine to replace your counter top mixer when you need to make a large helping of mashed potatoes. Because the LS-1 is a pretty big machine, we’re going to need to increase the recipe a bit. Add a zero to the ingredients or quadruple the fraction measurements. That seems about right.

Let’s get started!

Ingredients

5 50 large potatoes, peeled, quartered and boiled

1/2 2 cups milk, heated

2 4 tablespoons butter or margarine

1 2 teaspoons salt

1/8 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Raise these all by multiples of ten, i.e. ½*10; 2*10; etc.

Preparation

  1. Warm (really big) mixer bowl with hot water, dry. No need to warm up the pin tool, it will get to just the right temperature (trust us). Place hot potatoes in bowl. Carefully place bowl on flat, stable surface and turn on the LS-1 Friction Stir Welder. Gradually increase the speed of the non-consumable spinning pin tool bit to ensure proper joining of all potatoes until smooth, about 5 seconds.
  1. Add all remaining ingredients. Increase pin tool speed and beat until milk is absorbed, about 0.3 seconds. Gradually increase speed until potatoes are fluffy. Don’t worry! The bowl won’t get too hot since the LS-1 uses INTELLISTIR for pin tool temperature control.
  1. It’s probably time to stop spinning. Hopefully there are still some potatoes left.

We hope you enjoy your mouth watering mashed potatoes and they bring smiles to the faces of your family and friends on Thanksgiving. Enjoy!*
