Kingswinford, UK – MTI Welding Technologies, Ltd. is building a state-of-the-art friction welding machine for a leading truck manufacturer in Europe. DAF Trucks will receive the MTI-built machine, which is capable of welding finished drive axles to a high tolerance with orientation. The machine and system are fully automatic from the input of the axle casings and spindles, to the unloading and stacking of the fully finished axle. The automatic system uses a robotic solution.

DAF (part of the Paccar group) will use the finished axles on its production line for tractor units.

“We’re really looking forward to working closely with DAF in the development of this project and the improvement to their manufacturing processes,” said Steve Marr, MTI UK Sales Manager. “The machine will bring a higher technology to the DAF production line over their current single-ended machine process, with greater spindle to spindle accuracy and also very tight tolerances on orientation with options for faster cycle time.’’

MTI plans to deliver the machine to DAF in April of 2020.
